Iolanthe!

We are thrilled to be starting work on our next production, the classic Gilbert and Sullivan show, Iolanthe! Coming to The Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks 27th – 29th November 2014!

Directed by Clive Bebee with Musical Direction from Daniel Beach.

Scandal in Parliament (nothing new there then).  It’s the swinging 1960s and Strephon Ward a common garden park keeper, has been dragged down into a scandal.  His beautiful girlfriend Phyllis, a deck chair attendant, is being courted by half the House of Lords. Even the Lord Chancellor is captivated by her charms. What no one knows is, Strephon is half a fairy and his mother, Iolanthe, (recently pardoned by the Fairy Queen for marrying a mortal 25 years earlier) all her sisters and aunts never grow old. Then double scandal he is discovered comforting a very young looking girl who is his mother in reality and his dreams of happiness are shattered.

Join Petts Wood Operatic Society for a new ‘Twist’ and ‘Shout’ on a G&S Classic with all the original music and words but a production based on the ‘Profumo affair’ with Mary Quant inspired fairies, sharp suited lords and a Lord Chancellor with a magic teddy bear.

First rehearsals (open to all): 24th June at 7:45pm and 1st July at 8:15pm at Newstead Wood School, Avebury Road, Orpington. Follow the signs for Bromley Tennis Centre and you will see our rehearsal room (the music block) on your right. There is plenty of parking available just outside.
